I am former mental health counselor but now manage a major health food retailer for almost three years now. For about the past 25 years I have been learning about and researching dietary supplements and am a true believer, taking handfuls of them every day. But I believe strongly that people should learn about supplements before they take them so they do not waste their money but gain the maximum benefits that come from making correct choices. Education also helps to manage your expectations and reduce the chances of getting scammed.
One advantage of working where I do is that I get to hear about the results that our customers achieve by taking supplements. This feedback is invaluable in recommending products to other people or trying them for myself. I also get to see what it is the latest "hot" supplement because it has been favorably written or talked about in the media. These items will invariably fly off the shelves to the point where we will be quickly out of stock. It is actually quite an interesting phenomenon to watch, attesting to power of media.
I have many varied other intellectual interests beyond health and wellness, these being philosophy, spirituality, science (especially physics), electronics and computers, psychology, politics, exercise and martial arts, animals (animal lover), writing, and education. An an avid reader who is committed to lifelong learning; I earned three college degrees in part, I think, just to get them. People know me as 'the expert' on subjects I undertake to learn, but I am not a 'know-it-all'. Part of learning is to realize it never stops and to always keep an open mind. Beyond that, I have enough flaws to keep me humble, God knows.
